Anna Helwing Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition of Michael Hakimi, Jacob Dahl Jürgensen, and Bernd Ribbeck. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2007 from 6 to 8pm. The gallery is located at 2766 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90034. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm.
Bernd Ribbeck draws on the abstract tendencies and historical forms of modernity in his intricately constructed works on paper. Ribbeck references the history of 20th Century Modernism influenced by utopian ideals of transcendence and redemption with cosmic harmony articulated in a geometric pictorial language. The geometric forms Ribbeck constructs are created by heavily worked acrylic paint, colored crayon, biro and permanent marker pen. This past summer Bernd Ribbeck was featured at Art Basel 38 Art Statements’ with an installation presented by
Galerie Kamm, Berlin.
Jacob Dahl Jürgensen’s practice is also informed by utopian ideals of early 20th Century Modernism. Jürgensen often quotes rom art history, intertwining recognizable forms and ideologies with fragments of popular culture to create ritualistic monuments divining a contemporary spirituality.
Michael Hakimi incorporates utilitarian and ephemeral materials such as newspaper, spray paint, and photocopies to make visible the semantic interplay of the abstracted urban sphere. Influenced by travel and an intense interest with his former home country Iran, abstracted patterns of urban scenarios play with the aesthetic language of early modernism and the patterning prevalent in Islamic art. Michael Hakimi’s current solo exhibition, “ROOF” can be viewed at the Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland through November 11, 2007.
Michael Hakimi, Jacob Dahl Jürgensen, Bernd Ribbeck will run through December 22, 2007. For further information contact Anna Helwing Gallery at 310 202 2213.
